I heard Dana Aaron speak on the topic of marketing the other night at an IEEE-Consultants Network meeting. For those of you living in New England, if you have a chance to hear Aaron speak, do yourself a favor and take the opportunity to listen to his ideas. Aaron has a wonderful way of taking what is for many a difficult subject, marketing, and making it approachable, systematic and fun. All of us, no matter our role, have to market at one time or another. Want to start a new project and need management's approval? Want to try a new direction career-wise? Want to find a new job? The first thing you'll need in any of these situations is good marketing skills, and this is where Dana can help you.
Dana started the non-profit Barn-Raising.org a couple years back to help people find jobs in Massachusetts by using a unique, community-based approach. His venture has been quite successful and has received much press of late (I told you he was good at marketing). See the Barn-Raising.org website for more information.
